Is Poker Rakeback worth it?

Is Rakeback worth it? I've heard different things.
I've looked at a couple of providers and rake the rake looks pretty good.
Has anyone used them or any other before? Is it worth doing? if so, any advice on the best way to do it?

2018 Results

Just done my end of year accounting. I hope many of you guys made out better than me.
Weird year, I was struggling between deciding on reg tables lower volume/higher winrate and speed tables but since $30nl snap on 888 started dying and only running for around five hours per day, the decision was kind of made for me.
Online microstakes speed poker is a dreadful experience for me now. Games are beatable but incredibly dull and no fun whatsoever. If/when Sky gets merged with Stars, I'll have some big decisions to make as to where poker fits into my life but hopefully that is a while off yet.
Sky +4800 +rewards. 888 +$3500 (estimate due to multiple computers and returning stakes profit) Pokerstars +$80 (estimate as above) Party Poker +$400 (estimate as above) iPoker +£180 (estimate as above) Unibet -£380 (I think that includes my awful sports betting) GG -$250 (estimate due to their graphs not including rake paid).
Hard to complain but I feel I could and should have done an awful lot better if I hadn't arsed around playing speed poker for probably 30% of the time.
Going to try and focus on Sky next year and try to hit £10,000 unless something happens with the Stars takeover during the year.

Found out you cannot beat the rake if your opponent is playing a pseudo-gto stategy

If your opponent is only betting/raising 50% or checking/calling/folding after the flop and doing so optimally you will not be able to overcome the rake unibet charges at NL4 (most sites have even higher rake), you will not gain that much from high end strategies such as overbetting.

So if you want to win at poker you should not even bother with GTO and do not waste money buying a solver like i did.

An Open Letter to the Moderators

I originally intended to send this letter to the moderation team directly. However, after expressing my concerns to two /poker moderators, I was encouraged by anonymous7, our great forum leader, to post my feelings publicly to the forum rather than privately to the mod team so as to foster "open discussion about the state of the moderation team."

Tagging Moderation Team of /poker: anonymous7/, NoLemurs/, dalonelybaptist/,BorkaBorkaBorka/, Stixx_27/, myimportantthoughts/, Touch_Of_Red/ , IrEgption/

Dear Touch_Of_Red,

You and I clearly do not see eye to eye on many issues. I would like to work on improving our relationship. In order to do so, I think we need to address a few issues.

With regard to "the recent history with your site" comment you made when removing a post I made comparing the rake schedules on a number of online poker sites, I can only assume that you are referring to Full Flush PokeEquity Poker Network and their recent failiure as a company. I'm not sure what devilish things you think I am guilty of, but there is quite a bit of misinformation floating about on various Internet poker forums. It seems as if you have read this information and bought it all hook line and sinker. I would like to offer additional information in hopes of changing your perspective on the matter.

You condemn me for being evil, but I help people on this forum every day. On many forums for that matter. I am frequently thanked here and elsewhere. In fact as of Feb 14th, the most recent 100 "comment replies" the word 'thank" has been uttered 13 times in direct response to my posts. A pretty good ratio on a downvote and troll happy board such as /poker don't you think?

I also easily comply with the 10:1 ratio of self promotion. Contrary to some of your prior accusations, I do not reply with "one word answers" intended to inflate my post count. In fact, I devised a little experiment to prove this. I copied both mine and your last 100 posts to /poker as of Feb 6th when I started writing this letter. I removed everything but the actual responses and numbered them (files available for review to anyone who wants them). Let's take a look at my metrics versus yours over the last 100 posts to /poker shall we?

Your word count = 3,472 Screenshot Proof My word count = 5,865 Screenshot Proof

Perhaps you think my website promotes "shady" and "unsafe" sites? I disagree wholeheartedly. I reject each and every site I'm unwilling to risk my own funds on. Here's a full list of sites we work with:
888, PokerStars, PartyPoker, Unibet, Betfair, Full Tilt, Bovada, Bodog, Ignition, America's Cardroom, Black Chip, True Poker, Ya Poker (you may not know this one, it is directly owned by ACR), BetOnline, Sportsbetting.ag, TigerGaming, SWCPoker, Grand Poker, Intertops, Juicy Stakes

You will note none of those crazy "play money" Iranian, Israeli, Asian poker sites are in that list. I do not find them worthy of risking my own money on, and thus I do not offer them to our clients. Period.

Since 2006 when we opened my website, we have had TWO poker sites fail that we promoted. Full Flush, and PokesPoker. They are separated in failure by 10 years. There were over 70 poker sites that failed during that time period. I think we have a good record for keeping our players away from crappy and terribly unsafe poker sites.

The Wiki [Editor's Note: This was part of a prior letter I wrote and wish to include it here as well]

Nearly 9 months ago when all of the controversy about the wiki was going on and right after TOR became a moderator, the decision was made to make the wiki only modifiable by moderators. I understand conflict of interest was the main rationale. I was also told that:
"Mods believe they have the time to use the wiki in a better way than it is being used right now."

This has proved utterly false. When I was editing the wiki (and I was the main editor for a year or so), I updated it 1-4 times per month as needed. In the nearly 8 months since the wiki was taken over by moderators, it has been edited two times. The first was to remove "affiliate influence and bias." The second was done less than a month ago to update Bovada to Ignition poker, a major event which had taken place a full 3 months prior to the edit).

In taking a quick glance over the wiki I saw over a dozen things that need to be updated. However, this is not being done. Mods are not keeping the wiki up to date and it is providing false and out of date information to readers of /poker.

I was also told that:

"Mods believe they can source discounts themselves, and due to non expectation of benefit for them sourcing it can get better deals than affiliates can."

This has also not happened. Not a single deal has been sourced. In fact, things are worse. A deal that gave out thousands of free dollars to poker subscribers was scrapped and never replaced. I fail to see the benefit to the forum in removing free money for subscribers. Other moderators agreed with me and wanted to keep the program live, but were seemingly overruled.

I will admit that I was not perfect and that some things could have been handled differently in the wiki, but in the last year I edited the Wiki and the FAQ, after ground rules were set, I always sought moderator approval for changes I thought might be controversial (DaLonelyBaptist/ can confirm this). I also strived to keep the Wiki as up to date as my time would allow, which turns out to be at least 15x more frequently than it is currently being updated.

I believe that much of this stems from Touch_Of_Red 's dislike for me. I think he seeks to punish me, "the evil spammer," for some perceived harm he has suffered. I do not think I am what he claims me to be. I constantly help players with issues on this forum, 2+2, CardsChat, and other smaller forums. I receive thanks quite often and I have NEVER been banned from any forum for spamming because I adhere to the stated rules of all forums I participate in.

I do not think it is fair to reduce knowledge and opportunity for /poker subscribers simply to punish me because TOR doesn't care for me. I think that if the Wiki rules were reset to what they were prior to TOR becoming a mod, that I could do an even better job of updating the wiki than before. In fact, I've learned a little bit of reddit coding and I feel that I can improve the format of the wiki as well as keeping it up to date, useful, and providing added value to the subscribers of poker.

Thanks for your time and thoughtful consideration. I hope that we can improve our relationship and come to some mutual understanding,
Prof

EDIT: To the people who still continue to bang the drum that I owned Full Flush Poker, in full, or in part, that is simply untrue. If you want to know who the owners are, look here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showpost.php?p=51452632&postcount=2282 . Were things misrepresented to me and did I believe it? It appears the sad truth is, yes. As I said above, I'm going to help anyone who gets in contact with me and lets me know how much they lost. I'm on track to have some sort of public offer up within the next two weeks fingers crossed if I can get more poker sites on board.

12 years working in the poker industry, most recently at Unibet - AMA

I played for a living from 2002-2004, worked for PokerStars from 2004-2012, including one year off in 2008 playing for a living again, Ladbrokes for a year, and currently Unibet for a year.
At Unibet I designed most of the geeky stuff: rake structure, achievements, missions, the loyalty scheme, the tournament schedule, plus milestones and various other features.
Obviously I'd like to talk about Unibet a lot, but ask me anything about online poker too. As long as it isn't likely to ruin my career (or reveal too much about internal numbers etc) I'll answer.
The online poker industry is in secular decline and almost every operator is shrinking. A large reason for that is because new players are losing faster today than they used to. The aim of Unibet poker is to create a level playing field where there are no HUDs, no trackers, no auto-seating scripts and no table selection. Players can also change alias up to three times per day. We want to keep new players alive for longer, and we want to make poker fun again.
I look after the Unibet thread on 2 + 2 at http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28/internet-pokeunibet-official-thread-1452899/ and I'll post there to confirm I'm me. For what it's worth, I'm also "Sciolist" on 2 + 2.
Unibet-ad: We're about to start dealing milestones hands, where we will award ~€100k (maybe > €1m if someone gets unreasonably lucky) from hand 95m to 105m. From Monday we will also be streaming a live cash game from Asper's casino that will featre Viktor Blom, amongst others. We are also about to start the 30th Unibet Open in London at the end of next week.
Edit: Looks like this has died out by itself. I'll check in from time to time if anyone bumps it.

Only My Best Is Good Enough

The thread title is the motto of the primary school my kids went to.
It's also going to be my motto in 2016.
2015 has been a slight disappointment. I have played well, I feel I'm a better player than I was at the start of the year but I've been displaying some of my old traits of being a nomad around various sites, which is an indication that I'm not on my mental A game.
How do I plan to manage this in 2016? The honest answer is.. I don't know yet. NL cash games are tough. They're what I plan to focus on but I need to put my blinkers on to other variants and only play occasional MTT's on the side.
What site do I plan on making my main site? Another tough question. I'm kind of hooked on speed poker, even though I know the games are dreadful with barely enough dead money in them to cover rake.
I'm starting out on Unibet. 888 reg tables are riddled with hardcore bumhunters (harder core than me) and I suspect scripters. There are also known bots operating there and probably lots of unknown bots too. Sky games are easily the best but the software is so demanding and tilting, also, traffic isn't great at the times I want to play.
FTP reg tables can be ok but again, traffic is low. Rush poker is just a bunch of regs and the rake is hard to beat for anything more than 4bb, maybe not even 4bb is possible at $50nl.
I'm going to 4 table €50nl on Unibet to begin with and I'm going to try and keep meticulous records. I'm going to only play when I have ideal conditions (ie no wife around or other distractions) and only when the pool has >40 players. When the pool has <40 players, I will play €25nl.
2016 will be my year. I can easily make £10k+ if I perform near to my best. I will be keeping a blog across various sites and will link to updates in the daily chat threads.
Good Luck yourselves in 2016. It's going to be as tough, if not tougher than ever but not so tough that we can't get our slice of the pie if we deliver our best on a frequent basis.

questions about Multitabling on browser versions of online poker sites

Hi. I am a linux user who started playing online poker on my laptop a few months ago. I play on browser (or "no download") versions of poker sites as the apps typically are not downloadable on linux. I've been grinding microstakes (6 max NlHE 4 and PLO 4, with big blinds of 0.04€) and building a bankroll on Unibet. Unibet has worked great and there is a feature to add tables, where it stacks the tables and automatically switches to the table where it is your turn to act. However since I typically only 2- or 3-table I would much rather tile the tables so that I can always see whats happening on any table (this would propably help me react faster as I can see each situation developing before I have to act, and maybe I could add more tables because of that. Also I could watch the end result of hands to get reads on players).
So my question is, what poker sites have browser versions where you can tile tables? Or is there some other way to get around this (like downloading some sort of free software to arrange tables)? What pokersites are known to be stable when downloaded via wine? In general, what are the poker sites with the best browser version in your opinion (most important things for me=stability, amount of games, trustworthyness, versatility with multitabling, and good player pool+rake for making money)? Any advice on multitabling in general?
Sorry for the broad topic and multitude of questions, if you are able to answer even one I would be happy :D

Why are nanostakes cash games so much harder on Pokerstars than other sites?

I've just recently switched to another site after having a prolonged stretch of poor results on Pokerstars. Playing mostly 5NL on PS, I was a 0.65bb/100 winner over 82k hands. While I was technically a small winner based on results only, I'm sure that I was a net losing player if rake and money spent on training is included. Aside from my results being worse, I find the games on Pokerstars just play a lot tougher. They are much more aggressive preflop. There are a ton of solid Russian regulars. The fish on Pokerstars also aren't as bad as they are on Unibet or Bovada. I found 5NL zoom to be miserable, depressing grind. I honestly don't know how anyone gets out of 5NL there without going on a massive, extended heater. I am playing the exact same strategy on Unibet as I did on Pokerstars (20/18/4% 3-bet) and I have been crushing so far, whereas on Pokerstars I was getting smoked. On PS it honestly felt like I was playing against superusers as they always seemed to know exactly when I was value-betting or bluffing. On Unibet there is much more limping, much less 3-betting, and I get paid off way more on my value bets. I also find passive games much more enjoyable to play in. The software isn't as good as PS, but nowhere is. I would say PS is fine if you are intentionally trying to play in the toughest cash games in the world, but if you are just looking to build a bankroll and enjoy playing poker while doing so then there are better options available.
